Times Energy Storage Liquid Foamed Silicone Rubber

The 18th Shenzhen International Battery Technology Exhibition is in full swing, with safety and lightweight design standing out as the core highlights of the event. During the exhibition, Silicone Mall visited the booth of Guangdong Times Energy Storage New Material Technology Co., Ltd. and held a discussion with Mr. Han Rongshun, the company’s General Manager.

Faced with the industry’s dual concerns over battery thermal runaway and energy density, from cell buffering to module thermal insulation, CATL Energy Storage is redefining the limits of battery protection with foamed liquid silicone materials featuring enhanced safety, lighter weight and superior cost performance. Join us for this informative in-depth discussion.

1. Organic Silicon Mall:

What types of related products did CATL Energy Storage prominently display at this battery exhibition? In which application scenarios are they respectively applied?

Han Rongshun, General Manager of Era Energy Storage:

At present, our core product lines include specialized base glues for liquid foaming, liquid foaming silicone, liquid silicone foam rolls, vinyl silicone oil for thermal conductive silicone sheets, and silicone resin for fiberglass sleeves. These products are widely used across numerous sectors such as new energy vehicles, energy storage batteries, home appliances, rail transit, network communications, consumer electronics, electromechanical equipment, military industry, and aerospace.

2. Silicone Mall:

In applications within the new energy sector, what are the core advantages of liquid foaming silicone from Era Energy Storage compared with traditional foaming materials?

Han Rongshun, General Manager of Era Energy Storage:

Compared with traditional silicone foams plagued by pain points including coarse cells, mottled surfaces, high water absorption, unstable expansion ratio leading to high scrap rates, liquid silicone foam developed by Times New Energy Storage boasts remarkable advantages: fine and uniformly distributed closed cells, smooth surfaces free of mottling and pinholes, stable expansion ratio across production batches, over 95% closed-cell rate and ultra-low water absorption. Featuring an easy-to-handle 1:1 mixing ratio and compatibility with automated production lines, it withstands temperatures ranging from -50℃ to 200℃, delivers outstanding anti-aging performance and meets UL94V-0 flame retardancy grade V-0. Suitable for new energy battery and rail transit protection applications, it addresses various production drawbacks of conventional foamed silicone products.

3. Organosilicon Mall:

Times Silicon Industry has gained a firm foothold in liquid silicone rubber for daily necessities, vinyl silicone oil and other fields. As an emerging enterprise focusing on liquid foaming silicone materials, what are the core directions for Times Energy Storage to make technological breakthroughs in the next development phase?

Han Rongshun, General Manager of Times Energy Storage:

Times Silicone and Times Energy Storage are two enterprises deployed collaboratively under the same corporate system. The former focuses on mature markets including conventional liquid silicone rubber and vinyl silicone oil, while Times Energy Storage concentrates on the research and development of liquid foamed silicone materials for the new energy and high-end equipment sectors. For the next development phase, core technological breakthroughs of Times Energy Storage will mainly advance along two orientations:

① the R&D and application of liquid adhesive dedicated to ultra-thin foam

This product is mainly targeted at the consumer electronics sector and is designed to replace traditional materials such as PU foam and EVA foam. Its technical advantages lie in outstanding anti-aging performance, an extremely low permanent compression set rate, as well as non-toxic and eco-friendly features, enabling it to meet the stringent requirements of electronic products for lightweight, reliable and green materials.

② Breakthrough of Ceramicizable Liquid Silicone Rubber

This research direction focuses on safety protection applications, especially in the scenarios of battery thermal management as well as fire prevention and heat insulation. With ceramic chemical modification technology, silicone foam can form a dense ceramic layer under high-temperature or flaming conditions to deliver effective barrier and flame retardant effects, substantially improving the safety performance of energy storage systems, new energy vehicles and other related fields.

The above two technologies will serve as the core driving force for Times Energy Storage’s product upgrading and market expansion in the next stage.
